Why Carpet Is A Good Flooring Type For A Boat

by Terra Fuller

When you're shopping for a boat that you'll use for fishing and other water activities, one detail that you shouldn't overlook is the type of flooring that the boat possesses. Lower-end boats often have aluminum floors, while higher-end models have carpeted floors. There are several factors that can influence which boat you decide to buy, but it's important to fully understand the merits of having carpet beneath your feet while you're on your new boat. Here are three reasons that carpet is a good flooring type for a boat.

It Doesn't Get Hot

When you're out on the water, there's no source of shade unless you're extremely close to a tree-lined shore. On a sunny day, this will mean that the entire boat will get hot. When you have an aluminum floor, it may be uncomfortable beneath your bare feet. While you could wear sandals or shoes, some people enjoy having their feet bare when they're out on the water. A carpeted floor is ideal because it doesn't get nearly as hot. This means that it won't bother the soles of your feet. Additionally, if you have children who are sitting on the floor of the boat, the carpet won't get too hot for their skin.

It's Soft To Walk On

It's common to stand up when you're fishing from a boat and being in a standing position will allow you to walk around the boat as needed. When doing so, it's important to keep quiet. Fish that are in the vicinity may pick up on loud footsteps, and this could cause them to flee. An aluminum floor can be a little loud for walking, but a carpeted floor will offer much quieter. Because of its soft surface, you'll have no trouble keeping your volume down — even when you're walking around the boat.

It's Comfortable For Sitting

A fishing boat is generally equipped with a number of seats, and many boats give you the flexibility of moving the seats around. Even with the presence of the seats, some of your passengers may enjoy sitting on the floor of the boat. Children, especially, may enjoy sitting or even lying out. An aluminum floor can be a hard surface for sitting, especially for prolonged periods. While a boat's carpet floor isn't plush like the carpet that you might have in your home, it's unquestionably more comfortable for sitting on.
